Opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey has backtracked on his call for the taxing of trusts.
Mr Hockey said in a speech in Melbourne on Wednesday the tax system was more complex than ever, including "corporate tax of 30 per cent and trusts which pay no tax in their own right".
The Liberal frontbencher told the tax conference the difference in tax rates according to the type of legal entity "seems to have no basis in logic".

Indianapolis Colts receiver Reggie Wayne was home relaxing last fall when he got the phone call.
“Congratulations!’’ announced close friend Santana Moss, a Washington Redskins receiver and University of Miami teammate of Wayne’s in the late 1990s.
“Thank you,’’ Wayne replied skeptically.
“So, what exactly am I being congratulated for?’’
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Wayne will be one of three former UM football players – including Moss and retired NFL linebacker Dan Morgan – to be inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame at Jungle Island.
The other five: divers Daphne Jongejans-Bousquet and Tyce Routson, women’s tennis coach Ian

2011 will be one of the most important drafts in the short history of the Houston Texans.  After a disastrous step back in 2010 from the moderate success in the three prior seasons, head coach, Gary Kubiak, and general manager, Rick Smith, can see the writing on the wall: Make the playoffs or lose your jobs.
With no free agency period likely before the draft in late April, the Texans will likely have more of a tendency to fill the holes on their defensive roster and use free agent signings to augment those draft selections, which is backwards from the

ASU basketball took big step back this season

From the season opener at New Mexico to the Pac-10 Tournament, nothing about this season was easy.
Picked fourth in the Pac-10 preseason media poll, the Sun Devils weren't competitive, finishing last in a rebuilding conference. Wednesday's 76-69 loss to seventh-seeded Oregon, a team ASU had defeated twice, dropped the Sun Devils to 12-19, a significant step back for coach Herb Sendek's program.
"It's been a challenging season," said Sendek, who had led the Sun Devils to three consecutive 20-win seasons before this one tipped off. "But our guys stayed together and continued to work hard and battle, and we'll
